Arizona offers lots of opportunities for off-grid homesteading. Things to consider though: how deep is the water table and how much will a well cost, will the property perc for a standard septic which can cost about $10,000 to 15,000 or will you need an alternate septic which can cost $35,000 or more. Some properties already have a septic and or a well. Some properties, the water table is so deep that a well is not feasible and you will have to haul water to the property or pay to have it delivered. Some properties have irrigation rights which means surface of water has been used to water crops on the property. Arizona has a variety of climates to choose from. Hotter climates may require air conditioning which uses more power. So many people choose areas with mild temperatures or colder climates so they don't need air conditioning. Some people like to build their own alternate style home like dirt bag or rammed earth. Cochise county allows you to build an alternate style home yourself without an engineer designing the houseplans. Other counties require that an engineer design the buildings.
